Garden Railway Saturday; Water Feature

Just a little update today (as, frankly, the last few weeks have been a bit hectic, getting ready for a railway exhibition). This looks back to one of the big jobs with the garden railway this summer, and installing the water features...

When we built the garden line, we left provision for a small pond, having spotted a long metal trough of just the right size online. Then the budget ran out, and when the budget came back, we suddenly found that nope, the trough was out of stock. The railway sat for a good year with a big stone-filled trench in it, until by chance our local garden centre got some suitable plastic planters in which we could use.

This isn't exactly going to be somewhere to keep a magnificent collection of koi carp, it's more of a wildlife pond, and that meant plants. A quick trip to the local garden centre later...

...and this thoroughly underwhelming scene resulted.

Still, it looked a bit better with some more planting, and within a few weeks, it had all spread quite nicely. In fact, this slightly bonkers summer and the general climate catastrophe means that if anything, the plants have now (4 months later) spread a bit too much...

Ah yes, the bridges... one worked quite nicely, the other is going to need the manufacturing of something a wee bit more bespoke, on a curve, as this one over-dominates the front of the layout.

Here we go, in the mag.
